Demetrius Georghiou: Haley’s Comet

6 – 30 October 2021

PALFREY presents Haley’s Comet, a show of new paintings by Demetrius Georghiou.

Made in the space at Palfrey in the weeks immediately preceding the show, the four works that make up Haley’s Comet assert an initial immediacy of visual impact which is then slowed and complicated by calibrated effects of colour and surface.  The three large paintings share the same format – each 200 x 150 cm – that responds to the gallery space and invokes a common measure in terms of scale and pace. Georghiou’s understated paintings – offering dialogues with precedents such as Al Held, Jasper Johns and Mary Heilmann – create shifting affinities and dialogues between geometries, surface, colour and touch.

OPENING Wednesday 6 October, 5 – 8 pm
